Connections

AudiencePlatform admins, data teams
PrerequisitesThe Configure Agents grant. Most channels also need a matching destination (see Ad platforms and Lifecycle platforms).

Connect your marketing tools so agents can use campaign, creative, and messaging data alongside your warehouse data. Connections is where you link ad platforms, email service providers, and digital asset managers to Hightouch.

What you'll learn

Overview

The Connections page brings your marketing tools into Hightouch. In the app, it lives under Context Hub > Connected data.

  • Channels sync campaign data from ad platforms and lifecycle platforms.
  • Email service providers import your email templates for Lifecycle Studio.
  • Digital asset managers give agents access to your images and creative files.
  • Workflow management connects project-management tools, such as Asana, to Lifecycle Studio campaigns.

Connect a channel

A channel syncs data from an ad platform or lifecycle platform into Hightouch through Fivetran, the data-sync service Hightouch uses to pull data from these accounts.

  • Ad platforms sync campaign structure, creative, and performance data. Agents use it to analyze how your ads perform and which creative works.
  • Lifecycle platforms sync metadata about your campaigns, flows, journeys, segments, and templates. Agents use it to understand what you've sent and to report on it. Engagement events such as opens and clicks come from your warehouse, not from this connection.

Before you connect:

  • A destination isn't a connection. Lifecycle channels reuse a Hightouch destination's credentials, but a destination that syncs successfully doesn't necessarily have the read access a channel needs. Check the requirements for your platform below.
  • Create one connection per ad platform, and one per lifecycle account. Ad platforms sync every selected ad account through one connection. Lifecycle platforms support a separate connection for each account, business unit, or workspace.
  • Plan for the initial sync to take hours, and sometimes days. Large accounts and long history windows take longest. If Fivetran asks for a historical sync window, choose the shortest one that covers your use case.

To connect a channel:

  1. Go to Context Hub > Connected data.
  2. Under Channels > Available, select + next to the platform.
  3. If the platform needs one, select the matching destination.
  4. For Facebook Ads and Google Ads, select the ad accounts to sync in Enabled accounts.
  5. Click Connect, then follow the prompts. Many platforms redirect you to Fivetran to authorize access or confirm setup.

The connection is ready when its initial sync finishes and an agent can answer a question about a campaign you know.

Ad platforms

For platforms that need a destination, both the account you authorize in Fivetran and the destination must have access to every ad account you want to sync.

PlatformDestination neededNotes
Facebook AdsYes, to fetch ad creativeWe recommend a destination authorized with Log in with Meta account. In Fivetran, select Grant User Access as the authentication method. Choose ad accounts in Enabled accounts.

Lifecycle platforms

Every lifecycle platform uses a destination's credentials. When you connect, Hightouch checks that those credentials have the access Fivetran needs, listed below, and tells you what's missing. A destination can sync data to the platform without this read access, so you may need to update the key or create a new one.

If the destination uses OAuth, you sign in to Klaviyo in Fivetran, and that's where you reauthorize.

Manage channel connections

Select a connected channel to view its connections and their status. From there you can edit a connection's name, destination, or enabled accounts, pause and resume syncing, or delete it.

If a connection breaks
Connections shows a banner reading A connection needs attention. Open the affected channel to debug it.

Email service providers

Connect an email service provider (ESP) to import email templates into Hightouch for use in Lifecycle Studio.

The Email Service Providers section is available in workspaces with Lifecycle Studio enabled.

Connecting an ESP for template import is separate from connecting the same tool as a channel. A channel syncs campaign metadata for agents. An ESP connection imports email templates. Braze, Klaviyo, Iterable, and Salesforce Marketing Cloud can appear in both places for different purposes.

Email Service Providers section with the provider dropdown open

To connect an ESP and import templates:

  1. Select your Email Service Provider from the dropdown.
  2. If no destination exists for that provider, select Connect your ESP to create one. You need an ESP destination before you can import templates.
  3. Once a destination exists, it appears by its Integration name. Select View Templates next to the integration.
  4. In the browse dialog, search for templates by name. For Iterable, you can also filter by template type.
  5. Select the templates to import, optionally assign them to one or more Brand profiles, and select Import.

The preview includes the template name, subject line, preheader, tags, and HTML preview.

Digital asset managers

Connect a digital asset manager (DAM) so agents can access your images and creative assets. Providers appear as cards under Digital Asset Managers, and the list can vary by workspace.

To connect a DAM, select its card, then follow the prompts to authorize access. Each card shows a status:

  • Not configured — Available to connect but not set up yet.
  • Connected — Connected, and its assets are available to agents.
  • Plugin available — Connect through the provider's plugin.
  • Coming soon — Support is planned but not yet available.

Workflow management

Connect a project-management tool so your team can manage Lifecycle Studio campaigns from where they plan the work.

Available in workspaces with Lifecycle Studio enabled. Hightouch currently supports Asana. To ask about other tools, .

To get started, select the Asana card and follow the setup steps. For the full workflow — authentication options, installing the app, and what you can do from each side — see the Asana integration.
